What was your reaction to receiving a College Match scholarship?

When I got the phone call that I had been matched, I couldn't contain myself. It was the most surreal experience I've ever had and one that I will always remember vividly. My parents and I just had to hug each other and try to live in the moment.

What challenges did you expect to encounter in applying to college?

I knew that I had to be realistic when I was applying to colleges. My family didn't have the money to send me to a place that I really dreamt of being at. But QuestBridge changed what the definition of realistic was for me. It allowed me to pursue goals that I really wanted to pursue and eventually provided me a way to go to my dream school.

What were your college plans before you heard of QuestBridge?

Before hearing about QuestBridge, I was planning on going to a state school where I could get some scholarship money. My dream was to go to Emory, but the price put it way out of my reach. After finding out that Emory was a QuestBridge partner, my entire perspective changed. I gave it all that I had and eventually got into my dream school with amazing financial aid.

What are the benefits of applying to college through QuestBridge? Why should other students facing financial limitations apply to college through QuestBridge?

There are huge benefits to applying through QuestBridge. The QuestBridge application allows your individual circumstances to shine through and truly shows the situation you are coming from. For me, my family was buried in medical debt from my dad having cancer. The application allowed me to express that which wouldn't have been possible or as easy on standard applications.
