QuestBridge Launches 2008 College Prep Scholarship

The QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship levels the playing field of college admissions. It equips outstanding low-income high school juniors with the knowledge necessary to compete for admission to the nation’s most selective colleges.

College Prep Scholarship awards include:

  • Full scholarships to college summer school programs: 10 students will receive free counseling from QuestBridge to support their applications to summer school programs at Harvard, Notre Dame, Stanford or Yale. If accepted, they will receive scholarships covering the full cost of travel, tuition, and room & board.
  • Individualized college admissions counseling: 40 students will be paired with a QuestBridge counselor who will provide personalized admissions advice via phone and e-mail throughout the college application process.
  • College Admissions Conference invitations: 800 students will be invited to QuestBridge conferences at Stanford or Yale. Participants will attend workshops in which QuestBridge staff will share lessons on how low-income students can successfully apply to leading colleges. They will also meet college admissions officers and learn more about the opportunities that QuestBridge offers.
  • All-expense-paid campus visits: 30 students will have all of their travel expenses and room & board covered to visit a QuestBridge partner college.
  • Tele-mentoring with college students: 100 students will each be paired with an Amherst College student who will provide advice about the college admissions process.
The campus visits and tele-mentoring awards are reserved by our partner colleges exclusively for QuestBridge applicants, and are awarded by the colleges based on a separate application.

The College Prep Scholarship application is available at www.questbridge.org. The application is free of charge and is due March 31, 2008.

The College Prep Scholarship also prepares students to be successful applicants to the QuestBridge National College Match program, which pairs outstanding low-income high school seniors with admission and full four-year scholarships to our partner colleges. Last year, 204 students were offered admission and full four-year College Match scholarships to QuestBridge partner colleges. 500 additional QuestBridge applicants were admitted to partner colleges with generous financial aid through the regular decision process.

QuestBridge partners include Amherst College, Bowdoin College, Claremont McKenna College, Columbia University, Emory University, Oberlin College, Pomona College, Princeton University, Rice University, Scripps College, Stanford University, Swarthmore College, Trinity College, the University of Chicago, the University of Notre Dame, Vassar College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College (IL), Williams College, and Yale University.
