The QuestBridge application is specifically designed to showcase low-income students in the best possible light. Low-income students often have richer life stories than other applicants – but only the QuestBridge application provides the context that allow students to easily and completely tell their stories. Our application uniquely provides the following five areas:
- Household income
The QuestBridge application allows students to state how much their parents make. Top colleges are very interested in low-income students, but because many are need-blind, they don’t know whether or not a student is low-income. As a result, it’s difficult to factor in any obstacles a student has overcome. The QuestBridge application directly addresses this problem.
- Summer experience
The QuestBridge application specifically asks how students spent their last two summers. This allows low-income students to showcase the unique life experiences they have had.
- Work experience/earnings
Low-income students work to support themselves much more than higher-income students. A normal college application does not emphasize the work experience of prospective students and does not delve into why they chose to work. The QuestBridge application does, and as a result highlights an aspect of life that gives low-income students an advantage by showing their level of maturity.
- Special household circumstances
The QuestBridge application specifically asks about any special circumstances involving applicants’ families. Low-income students have often overcome unique family obstacles that other students have not even faced. The QuestBridge application brings these out – other applications do not.
- One-sentence non-conventional college application questions
The QuestBridge application asks 14 short answer questions about students’ lives like "What are your favorite types of music?" and "How do you spend a typical weekend?" College admissions officers really value these questions because they give a direct look into the real lives of their prospective students.
