Available Majors and Career Preparation

  • Brown University offers almost 2,000 courses and 85 academic concentrations. Brown is known for its distinctive curriculum which encourages student involvement in designing an individualized course of study. Interdisciplinary perspectives and broad exposure to a variety of disciplines are hallmarks of the Brown experience. See the entire list of available concentrations at Brown.

  • Interested in Medicine? Brown University offers the Program in Liberal Medical Education, an eight-year combined A.B./Sc.B. and M.D. program. Brown also offers a variety of science and social science courses to prepare students to apply to medical school. Many Brown students apply to medical school independently from this program with the assistance of the Health Careers Advising Office.

  • Interested in Engineering? The Division of Engineering at Brown offers concentrations in biomedical, chemical and biochemical, civil, computer, electrical, materials and mechanical engineering.

  • Interested in Business? Brown offers majors including Economics, Mathematical Economics, and Commerce, Organizations, and Entrepreneurship, which prepare students for future work in business.

  • Interested in Pre-Law? No particular track or major is required in order to apply to law school, and Brown does not offer a pre-law major. However, Brown offers a number of majors that appeal to pre-law students, including Political Science and Public Policy and American Institutions. Advising is provided through the law school advising deans.
