National College Match Application Requirements
for College Match Finalists

 

Special Note: Columbia has extended their submission deadline for your materials to Friday, November 8. Click here for more details. 

If you have ranked Columbia University as one of your choices for the QuestBridge National College Match, the following Application and Financial Aid materials must be submitted to the college as soon as you are notified of your finalist status on October 22. Due to the amount of supplementary application materials required for Columbia, it is highly recommended that you begin this process in early October.

If there are any additional questions please refer to the FAQ for QuestBridge Students Applying to Columbia.

  • The deadline to submit these requirements is November 4, 2013.
  • If you do not submit the required materials by November 4, 2013, Columbia may choose not to consider your application for the College Match.
  • If you are not selected as a National College Match Finalist, please review the college-specific requirements for QuestBridge students who wish to apply through the Regular Decision process.
  • Please Note: If you are not matched with Columbia or another binding institution and you have submitted a complete Common Application with Columbia Writing Supplement, you will automatically be considered for Regular Decision.

 

Required Application Materials

Columbia requires the Common Application, and all candidates must apply online.  The following are required components of a completed application:

  • The Common Application,which includes:

  • Autobiographical information
  • Application Fee - The application fee will be waived for QuestBridge finalists. In the Common Application member-specific questions for Columbia, please select "Yes, I qualify for one of Columbia University's fee waivers." 
  • Lists and descriptions of a student's achievements, activities, employment and summer activities.
  • The Common Application personal essay
  • Columbia-specific member questions
  • The Columbia Writing Supplement to the Common Application, which includes:
  • One short-answer question regarding interest in Columbia
  • One short-answer question regarding interest in either Columbia College or Columbia Engineering
  • Additional Columbia-specific short-answer questions.

Additional requirements include an official high school transcript, standardized testing and two teacher recommendations.

Official test scores
Request official score reports from the College Board and/or ACT as soon as you are notified of your QuestBridge finalist status on October 22. You should not use the "rush reporting" service.

ACT code: 2717 (Columbia College), 2719 (Columbia Engineering)

The last acceptable SAT test date for students applying through the Match process is October 5. The last acceptable ACT test date for students applying through the Match process is October 26. Regular Decision applicants must take the SAT no later than January and the ACT no later than February.

Official transcripts
Copies of official high school transcripts must be sent directly to Columbia as part of the Common Application.

A copy of your parents' 2012 federal income tax returns (signed, with all schedules, attachments, W-2s, and other earnings statements). Include personal and corporate/partnership tax returns.

Copies of your parents' recent paystubs or other verification of current-year income.

If your parents are separated, divorced, or never married:

a. Your noncustodial parent must submit the online Noncustodial PROFILE using the login ID and password that will be emailed to you when you complete the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE.

b. Your noncustodial parent must also submit copies of their 2012 federal tax returns with all schedules, attachments, W-2s, and other earnings statements. Submit directly to Columbia using this cover sheet.

c. If you do not have any contact with your noncustodial parents, then you may submit a request to waive the requirement of their financial information. Your request must include a statement from a third party who can verify your situation. The Noncustodial Waiver Petition is available online at http://www.questbridge.org/images/ncp_waiver.pdf.

Regular Decision Application Requirements

You may apply to Columbia via Regular Decision by completing the steps below.

  • Request Regular Decision application forwarding on your "Application Management" page between December 2nd and December 12th.
  • Submit all required additional materials depending on your status below.
  • All additional materials are due by the Columbia Regular Decision deadline, and you will be notified on the admissions decision according to their normal deadlines.
  • Please Note:If you are not matched with Columbia or another binding institution and you have submitted a complete Common Application with Columbia Writing Supplement, you will automatically be considered for Regular Decision.

Columbia's Testing Requirements

Each of our partner colleges has different requirements for standardized tests that students must take in order to be considered for admission. Please review the testing requirements for Columbia below. Refer to the National College Match Requirements (above) for instructions regarding submission of test scores to the colleges.

  • SAT Reasoning Test and 2 SAT Subject Tests (for Engineering applicants, Math 1 or 2 and Biology, Physics or Chemistry; or
  • ACT with Writing
