Tele-Mentoring with Amherst College Students

Amherst College, Amherst, Massachusetts

QuestBridge is pleased to offer the Amherst tele-mentoring award in partnership with Amherst College, which is ranked as one of the top colleges in the nation by US News and World Report. 100 College Prep Scholarship applicants will be paired with an Amherst College student who will advise them by phone and e-mail about the college admissions process.

The Amherst students who provide the tele-mentoring service are high-achieving low-income students themselves, and many are among the first in their family to attend college. Having recently navigated the college admissions process, these students can offer insight and practical know-how to guide you through the process of getting into a selective college.

Award Benefits

In addition to their own personal experience, the Amherst tele-mentors have received extensive training that will enable them to answer questions on a range of topics, including:

  • What to look for in a college and how to choose the right one

  • Filling out college applications and writing application essays

  • How to approach the financial aid process

  • Academic and social life as a low-income student at a highly selective college

Award Specifics

The 100 tele-mentoring awards are reserved by Amherst College exclusively for QuestBridge applicants, and are awarded by Amherst based on a separate application. A limited number of QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship applicants will be nominated by QuestBridge for the opportunity to complete Amherst’s tele-mentoring application.
