Policy Regarding Outside scholarships
Outside scholarships will reduce or replace a student's work-study amount. Outside scholarships in excess of $2,100 will first eliminate the work-study expectation and the amount in excess of $2,100 will then reduce the amount of Davidson College grant on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
Policy on Health Insurance
Davidson requires all students to have personal health insurance. Students not covered by a family insurance plan can have the amount of Davidson grant increased to pay for student health insurance offered through Davidson.
Other Details
The work-study award of $2,100 represents approximately 8-9 hours of work per week for first-year students. For second, third and fourth-year students, the work-study award increases to $2,250; however, students remaining in their jobs from year to year also see an increase in their hourly pay rate.
- Students may choose to replace their summer work contribution by borrowing a Direct Stafford Loan.
- The room and board allowance is based on the cost of a double room and the 19-meal board plan.
- The travel allowance varies depending on the student's state of residence.
