Chat Transcript Date: September 7, 2006 Topic: Bowdoin CollegeChat ParticipantsErby Mitchell, Associate Dean of AdmissionsTranscript: September 7, 2006. 5:00pm to 6:00pmQuest_Heidi Aahhh, Erby Mitchell has joined us! Hello Erby, could you take a minute or two to introduce yourself? Erby Hello everyone--my name is Erby Mitchell, Associate Dean of Admissions at Bowdoin College. I've been here now for six years and have a pretty good sense of this great school in Maine. Have any of you been to Maine? Heidy I received an invitation to spend two days at Bowdoin, but I've never visited Maine. Cindy Hi Erby. I received a Bowdoin Invitational Weekend application in the mail. I visited in August, and would love to attend, but I live in Colorado and have to take the ACT that weekend. Should I still send the application to Bowdoin, to indicate my interest? Could I come another weekend? Thanks, Cindy Erby Cindy, thanks for your interest. No need to send the application back, but if you apply and are admitted, we may fly you back to revisit in the spring. Did you enjoy your visit? Cindy Yes, I loved Bowdoin. I toured and interviewed, and met with Coach Corey about playing volleyball. I also had an opportunity to meet a student named Erin P.; she was kind enough to take me on a tour of the science building, and showed me her research with rats and brain lesions. All very interesting! I had never been to the East Coast, and loved Maine. Moonie Where is Bowdoin located? What kind of setting? Is it very nature-y or urban surrounded by sky scraper? Erby Moonie (love the name by the way, madd cool...)--Bowdoin is located about 2 1/2 hours north of Boston. It’s on the coast of Maine in a very suburban community Moonie I like being out-doors to clear my mind: i.e. hiking etc. would I be able to do this there? Erby Moonie, Maine is the best place to be outdoors. We have a tremendous outdoor leadership center and many students participate moonie Do most students spend the majority of their time in-doors? Erby Moonie, students are always outdoors at Bowdoin. It’s a beautiful place with lots of wonderful people and activities. Ashley Outside in the winter??? Sounds cold MiaTalia Yes!!!! Especially for southerners Erby Ashley, of course we're outside in the winter. Have you ever made a snowman, played broom ball, or tossed a snow ball at a professor? We love that stuff up here, and most will tell you that winter isn't that bad. CJ By the way, how harsh are the winters there? I am concerned because I spent most of my life in S. Florida. I am not sure about extreme cold. Erby S. Florida to Maine is a jump, thus the weather can be harsh. However, winter is a part of the culture here and people adjust. Get a coat, take in the snow, and learn to appreciate the novelty of a new environment. Andrew Yea....just so everyone knows.....Maine is a beautiful outdoorsy place....very suburban....trees....all that stuff.....o and beautiful weather too!!! Ashley I have been to Canada... that's the only winter I really experienced... but it doesn't get very cold in southern Tennessee... but that sounds fun. Erby Ashley, you'd likely have so much fun that you'll never return to TN. In fact, one of my favorite students is from MS and she hasn't left Maine since her first-year, however, she did go to France! Cindy Thanks, Erby. My QuestBridge application is almost complete; I have chosen Bowdoin as my #1 match school. To all of you who will be able to attend the Bowdoin Invitational Weekend ...I am SO jealous! Have a great time - it's a beautiful, friendly place. See you, Cindy Erby Cindy, I look forward to reviewing your application. Good luck and have a wonderful senior year! Ashley How is the setting in Maine? I haven't ever been there so I wouldn't know. I am from Chattanooga which is a pretty good sized city (about 200,000) but I don't know how I would adjust to extreme differences in the environment. Erby Maine has a population of 1.3 million, most of the state lives in the southern region. Andrew How close is Bowdoin to Porter? Erby Porter, Maine, or Portland, Maine. 30 Minutes from Portland Erby What things are you all most nervous about in terms of the college search process? Dan The things I’m most nervous about are making a right fit for me, getting a good financial aid package, and just getting accepted! Erby Dan, these are all great concerns. However, to find the right fit you must take advantage of opportunities to visit schools, be sure to ask questions about financial aid, and develop an understanding of what schools are looking for. Anh I was not "in shape" in the beginning to high school...meaning I was not focused...till now. What can I do to get scholarships.? Erby Anh, you have to keep working your butt off--also, find ways to write your college essays about your maturity and growth. I was a very immature high school student, and I only got better when I was a junior in college. You can do it! Carlton I would like to find out about Bowdoin's Multicultural Weekend Program. How do you get invited? When is it going to happen? What kind of high school seniors are you looking for the program? Is it too late to apply? And so on. Erby Email Pat Folger, my assistant at pfolger@bowdoin.edu--she can send you the application to be considered. kim.laurie I recently received an invitation to the Bowdoin Invitational. I am definitely applying however, I was wondering what the program actually entails. Erby Kim, you'll attend classes, stay with Bowdoin students, attend lectures, have on campus interviews, go to performances, eat our wonderful food, and we even take you to the local outlet shopping malls. kim.laurie I can't wait! Andrew Do you have a shadowing program where if I were to visit, I could stay overnight and experience the entire college experience? Erby Andrew, Yes. Contact pfolger@bowdoin.edu and she can send you the info. Andrew Sweet...thanks Echeverriah Okay, I have a question do you think I could make it for your Bowdoin with a 3.6 unweighted GPA and a SAT of 980 (math and Verbal only)? Even though my GPA and SAT scores are not that high, I have a great story about this. I moved to the United States in my second semester of freshman year. Do you think that Bowdoin would consider this about me? Erby Echeverriah, the great thing about Bowdoin is that we were the first college in America to have an "Optional" testing policy. This means that you don't even have to submit your test scores when you apply. As such, we're committed to looking at the rigor of your academic program, your capacity for leadership, and your recommendations. Izzy "Capacity for leadership" means community service, right? Erby Izzy: ABSOLUTELY Ashley Do you have any recommendations as to how much community service and extra curricular activities [are required] to get a better chance of being accepted into Bowdoin (or any other private college in that matter)? Erby Ashley, it's not about quantity, but it's about quality. We want to know that you're committed to substantive service, and that you'll make important contributions to your community and world. izzy: ok, what if you didn't do enough community service before your senior year, but as a senior you made up for those missing hours. is it too late for consideration to Bowdoin? Erby Izzy, Nope? Andrew I have done roughly 100 hours of community service over the years....I know its not too much but do you think I would still be eligible for a scholarship/financial aid with a good essay and leadership etc.? Erby Andrew, our scholarships are not based on merit, but need. The difference is that we'll give you money if your family needs it, not because you've earned straight A's or did 4000 hrs of service. This type of Aid is superior because it meets 100 percent of your need for four years. CJ Well, I was wondering if I would be seriously considered at Bowdoin with a 3.7 unweighted GPA and a 1210 SAT (verbal and math)? Erby CJ, why not? Andrew Why did Bowdoin decide to stop taking standardized tests? Now personally, I think that that’s a great idea because SAT's have nothing to do with how smart you are....its just a test to see how well you take tests right? Erby We decided to make testing optional because we realized that it [test scores] limited opportunities for many talented kids. Are test scores indicative of your true intellectual potential? andrew No not at all...I did way below what was "expected" of me and until I read about how they are beginning to be less important, I thought my goal of getting into a competitive college would diminish kim.laurie I am thankful that Bowdoin does not require test scores on the application; however, in regards to admissions what are the prime factors Bowdoin looks within a student? Erby Kim, essays, recs, leadership, and grades on transcript. izzy What are "recs"? antonio Recs are recommendations antonio First of all, does Bowdoin recognize the IB Diploma. If yes....How does it work? Emily For the IB, is credit considered for a 6 or 7 in a SL exam? Erby Antonio, YES. We do recognize the IB Diploma and will give credit for 6 or 7 on exams moonie Do you take 3's on AP exams? Erby Only 3's and higher. antonio Do you also give credit for non core IB classes such as Choir IB, Studio Art IB, Art History IB, Theory of Knowledge IB, music history IB and /or Dance IB? Erby Antonio, Yes. izzy Are there any SAT subject exams required? Erby Izzy: NOPE Kokeb I did take the SAT's and I have a total score of 1480. What do you think? Erby Kokeb: How does this breakdown? If the scores fall way below our threshold for admitted students, which I think they do [for the New SAT], you should not submit them. It's nothing against you, but you should give yourself the best chance to be admitted. MiaTalia I thought scores didn't matter @Bowdoin -- ? Maybe they give you a chance? Erby Mia, they only matter if you submit them. Andrew Erby, my school doesn’t have grades...instead, we have written evaluations explaining in detail the good and bad....I see these evaluations as a positive, but when looking at a students transcript and grades, would a popular college like yours be willing to go through all my evals or would it take to long because you need to view thousands of apps per year?? Erby Andrew, we see these types of evaluations each year. No Problem. Andrew When is the early decision deadline? Erby ED deadline is Nov 15 for EDI or Jan 1for EDII. SirJohnny I've heard that most colleges consider the admission essay first and most deeply. Is that true? Erby Sir Johnny, you are correct. The essay is the only subjective piece of information in the file, and it gives us a sense of who you are beyond the test scores, grades, and recs. carlton If QuestBridge finalist has a relative who attended Bowdoin, how do you consider it? Big advantage?, no difference?? Erby Carlton, we'll consider it, but your application will mean more. Carlton Thank you so much, Mr. Mitchell for your info. I am looking forward to applying to Bowdoin as it is one of top choices. I do not know if I can handle 40 degrees below, though. Thanks!!! Kokeb I moved to America last year. Do I need to take the TOEFL to be considered? Erby You should, it might be a more accurate reflection of your English profanely. However, if you feel that you can take the SAT's and be successful then do so. Vlada Hello Erby. As an international student I would like to know how much financial aid Bowdoin gives to internationals and what are the admission criteria. Erby Vlada, unfortunately, we only give about 4 international scholarships each year to students with financial need. Depending on how strong you are, you may qualify. Abigail I come from a family of 4 with one kid already in college and an income of 40,000. I am currently second in my class of about 350, scored 5s on all the AP tests I have taken so far, have a 4.0 unweighted GPA, am involved with numerous community service activities, participated in the national history day competition last year (after winning first at states) and the year before that (10th grade) participated at the Intel International Science and Engineering fair, not to mention I plan on going out with a bang this year. What type of scholarship package could I expect from your college? Erby Abigail, Bowdoin has very generous financial aid, and if you aren't selected for the Match scholarship, we also have many no-loan scholarship opportunities. You need only apply and see what happens, and your situations sounds like you'd qualify for significant aid. ingram88 What kinds of scholarships do you have for athletes? How accessible are they? Are you division 1, 2 or 3? Erby Ingram. No scholarships for athletes Ben What type of support do you give to Bowdoin students for graduate school? Erby Ben, at Bowdoin we offer graduating seniors an opportunity to apply for scholarships for graduate school. There is approximately $300k allocated each year for graduate school scholarships. CJ Are there any scholarships available for the study abroad programs at Bowdoin? Erby CJ, your financial aid will follow you where ever you go--this is the great thing about having such wonderful financial resources. kim.laurie If I were interested in studying abroad in Southwest Asia or in Tibet, would I be able to do so on financial aid? Erby Kim, Absolutely! kim.laurie Awesome Whitney Do I need to complete the CSS Profile for Bowdoin? Erby Whiteny. Yes, it allows us to determine what type of institutional aid you'd qualify for. moonie What is CCS Quest_Heidi I can help out here: CSS PROFILE - it’s a form that you complete on the College Board website that helps colleges determine your financial need (https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp) kim.laurie I am greatly interested in Bowdoin, however, I am bit concerned that I will not be able to adjust after living in the west coast. How would you describe the environment in terms of culture at Bowdoin? Erby Kim laurie--Don't be such a chicken--we recruit tons of kids from the west coast, particularly Latina women from LA!!! Seriously, the snow is cold and February can be brutal, but for the education it’s worth it. Andrew Over the last few weeks, Bowdoin has been on top of my college choices....I've heard nothing but great things about it....but in your opinion, what makes it better than the rest? Erby Andrew, location, location, location, resources, resources, resources, faculty, faculty, faculty, and our alumni--Bowdoin graduates are leaders and they live by our motto--The Common Good. Our liberal arts approach is not simply rhetoric - we do provide a broad range of opportunities for students to pursue. Believe the hype! Izzy What is Bowdoin College most famous for? Erby Izzy: We're most famous for graduating Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, Civil War Hero, Ken Chenault, first black CEO of American Express, George Mitchell, Former Sen. Majority Leader, Bill Cohen, Former Sec of Defense in the Clinton Administration, etc... Andrew Hey, I heard that Bowdoin has the #1 campus food in the COUNTRY....is that true?!?! Erby Andrew, Again, believe the hype--the food is off the hook! kim.laurie In comparison to the other two Maine schools, Colby and Bates, how does Bowdoin stand out from the rest? Erby Bowdoin has been a top ten liberal arts college for the past ten years. Our student body is probably more national than Bates and Colby and more racially diverse. However, they are awesome schools and provide their students with solid opportunities Antonio It is imperative that I keep on being active in church, are there any clubs/classes that I can be part of in order to keep God close always? Erby Antonio, there is a strong Christian fellowship at Bowdoin. In fact, many students attend church at the local Navy base or in nearby Portland, Maine. We provide transportation. Whitney I have lived in Texas all my life and am ready for a change but am scared to go so far away from my family. Is their a sense of community at Bowdoin? Erby Community is real at Bowdoin; it’s a small place with 1700 students. Faculty live nearby and staff as well. Each student has a dean who helps them transition to college, and you'll live in a dorm or college house with friends. The community is something you experience the moment you step on the campus. kim.laurie I have also heard that Bowdoin is pretty heavy on drinking. I don't really mind drinking, considering that it is an inevitable aspect of college. However, in regards to social life, are there other things one can endeavor beyond drinking? Erby Kim, drinking is a reality at Bowdoin, but I can't imagine that it's worse than any other elite liberal arts college. You don't have to drink to participate in social life, and in fact, you can choose to live in dry housing. Options, it's all about options. adada Is there much to do nearby off campus? Erby Adada, Yes. However, there is so much going on on campus that few people leave, unless of course they're going to Boston or New York for the weekend. Yes, Boston is only a bus ride away, and Jetblue can take you from Portland, Maine to NYC in 1 hour. antonio Diversity at Bowdoin is not a problem, but one of the most problematic situations at such diverse colleges is to keep the community connected as one. How does Bowdoin keep the tie between the students active, with an open mind? Erby Antonio, this is a very intelligent question. Actually, Bowdoin is in the process of understanding better how we integrate our success of improving diversity into all aspects of student life. For example, we're trying to get away from using the word ‘diversity’, and focusing on how to make this place more pluralistic. It makes no sense having more blacks and Hispanics if they don't talk to one another, right? WHitney How is housing assigned? Erby Whitney, we have a very sophisticated lottery system for housing. Your first year you'll be placed based on a survey that you complete. Second year your given options to participate in the college house system. The housing is awesome. We are in the process of building all new first-year dorms. Andrew Haha.....the dorms are 17th in the country...I heard from Princeton review....that’s amazing! Moonie The architectural beauty of a school makes a difference to me. is it pretty architecturally too? old or new buildings? etc... Erby Bowdoin has done a great job of integrating the traditional buildings with modernity. It’s a wonderful campus and has been cared for with great perspective and insight. Moonie Well, sounds fantastic! I think I want a change from the paradise of Santa Barbara, CA to experience an equally wonderful, different environment. sounds great. MiaTalia Btw, what percent of Bowdoin students come from the DEEP SOUTH??? Ashley Yeah, how many students at Bowdoin come from the south?? Erby Mia, approximately 4-5 percent MiaTalia Wow...that's very small. Adada Is there a college town nearby or something like that? Erby Adada, Brunswick is a college town, or close to it. You can walk to everything, grocery stores, movie theater, and even many ethnic restaurants. CJ Good evening. I have never been to Maine. However, I am interested in a school that has a solid study-abroad program, preferably in Japan. Does Bowdoin offer any such programs? Erby CJ, Bowdoin has an awesome Asian Studies program and over 55% of our students study away in over 80 different countries. There are even opportunities to study away for a semester, year, or even for the summer. IT’S HUGELY POPULAR AT BOWDOIN. Abigail I’m planning to go into research and development for synthetic biology (a relatively new field). Do you have a strong academic program for a major such as biochem that would help me achieve this goal? Erby Abigail, our science department is extraordinary and what makes it impressive is that our faculty only teach two courses per semester so you'll get real research experience as an undergrad. OH Yeah, we have no teaching assistants so all courses are taught by faculty. izzy Does Bowdoin have a good music program? Erby Izzy: we're opening a new multimillion dollar concert facility in April. You should go online and check it out www.bowdoin.edu emily I'm interested in doing a double major in theatre and psychology, and/or trying to find some way to tie them together, how well would I be able to do that at Bowdoin? Erby Emily, I just met our developmental psychologist today and he told me that 75 percent of Bowdoin students take psych 101, the first course for psych majors. You can certainly double major or you can major and minor, or create your own academic program combining courses from each. andrew I know Bowdoin doesn’t offer a business major, but are there any other programs or ways I can obtain the stuff needed to thrive in that sort of field where I would picture myself after college? Erby Andrew, I know many people who are doing investment banking and who majored in English! However, you can major in economics if you'd like, but I don't think you need a business degree to be on Wall Street. You need to know how to think, write, and make decisions in crucial moments. Whitney Does Bowdoin offer Human Biology because when I looked online I didn't see it? I only saw just plain Biology and I need Human Biology so then I can become either a doctor or physical therapist. Erby I've never heard of human biology, but we do offer biology. kim.laurie I strongly believe that being able to be fluent in languages besides English is an imperative trait all people should have. However, I noticed that even though a student may take an AP Spanish/French/German class, that student is still not proficiently fluent within that particular language. If I were to take a foreign language class at Bowdoin, could I expect to be able to speak the language fluently and also be able to understand the country's culture beyond the surface? Erby Kim, you could take 9,000 courses in a foreign language at Bowdoin and not be fluent. However, you should take courses that will also allow you to immerse yourself in the culture. We do this well at Bowdoin, and I suspect that most students who study away are also working hard to learn a language. My sense is that living abroad is the best way to become a more fluent language speaker. CJ Do you offer distance learning programs via the internet? Erby CJ, no distance learning. Moonie If I am interested in theater, environmental studies, debating and leadership (ie pre-law)... dancing and informal classes such as yoga, is it a good place for me? Erby Moonie, you can take classes in each of these academic areas. We offer nearly 700 courses each year and we have a very flexible curriculum. MiaTalia What about your world-famous government program??? What is that like??? I'm very interested. Best gov program in world 2003?????? Erby Gov is the most popular department on campus, in part because of the diversity of backgrounds of the faculty. It is the best Gov program in the World, just look at the track record of leaders who have emerged from Bowdoin. MiaTalia What makes your program the best? Many have great leaders. Erby Mia, good question. Our courses do more than just have students theorize about government, we actually provide opportunities for students get involved. Many of our students work with senators, do research with faculty, and help shape course work. The faculty is deep and committed to teaching and learning, and the course offerings are strong. Antonio Sir Erby, does Bowdoin take dual credit classes such as Psychology, Anthropology, Economics, Government, Holocaust studies and/or African Studies? and thanks for answering our questions with such care! Erby Antonio, I don't understand you question about dual enrollment. Help me my brotha! MiaTalia Erby, where can I find more information regarding opportunities your gov program offers??? Thanks!!! Erby: www.bowdoin.edu go to academic programs and locate the government department. MiaTalia Besides the website... Erby Mia, if you email me, I'll send you some hardcopy information from our office. MiaTalia Thank you Erby!! You have been a huge help!! I am very interested!!!! Ben Your little biography at the top of the page says you went to Harvard. How does Bowdoin stack up against the Ivy League-r? Erby Ben, I went to Harvard for graduate school, but I'd send my kids to Bowdoin over the IVIES any day. The Ivies are great places, particularly Harvard, but small liberal arts colleges are more committed to teaching than to research. You actually get to work with faculty, get your hands dirty, and you own the experience. RGS What is something that a professor would hate about Bowdoin? Erby RGS, what is something a professor would hate at Bowdoin? May be it would the fact that we have 100 student clubs and organizations and 30 varsity sports, which means that students at Bowdoin do more than just homework! Natalie This question is for Heidi...if I am in the process of working on my QuestBridge app. and I enter the e-mails for my rec forms and then hit save and continue, has the info been sent to the teachers, or does it happen after I finish the app? Quest_Heidi The email is sent right away to your teachers (remember to save first!) Natalie Heidi, when are the e-mails sent to my recommendation teachers? After I finish the entire application or once I hit "save and continue"? Quest_Heidi Once you hit "save and continue". Natalie Thank you Carlton Do you know how many QuestBridge Finalists will be accepted into Bowdoin this year? How many have you had?? Erby Bowdoin is looking to take between 7-8 QuestBridge students on full-scholarships this year. kim.laurie How selective would you say would it be to become a QuestBridge Match student for Bowdoin?---I know I lied....I had another question >_< Erby Kim, email me with questions emitchel@bowdoin.edu kim.laurie Will do...don't worry Andrew What are some cool facts about Bowdoin’s history? how old is it? Erby Andrew, Bowdoin is Maine's oldest college. It was founded in 1794 and created an opportunity for men to attend a great school. Remember, at one point Maine was a part of Massachusetts, thus many of the men from up north attended Harvard. However, Bowdoin has been around for 205 years and is one of the country’s oldest institutions. Antonio If Bowdoin is that old then why isn't part of the IVY league schools? Erby Antonio, we are technically not a colonial college which many of the IVIES are. Even Stanford isn't an Ivy Andrew Wow...that’s awesome Kokeb That's really awesome Andrew Ohh....here’s a question....who's Bowdoin’s rival?!?! Colby? Bates? Other? Erby The Bowdoin, Bates, Colby rivalry is very strong. In fact, our hockey games are the most well attended sports event. Then women's basketball. Quest_Heidi and to follow up on Andrew's question, what is your mascot? Andrew Bowdoin’s mascot is the polar bears right? Erby We are the Polar Bears--GO U BEARS! MiaTalia Brrrrr. Erby Do you know why we're the Polar Bears? Adada Mmm no clue Kokeb hint hint MiaTalia Why??? Ben Hmm? You hold magnets? (Polar Bearers... Har) Andrew No....but I live near brown so between the brown bears and polar bears...I am apparently subconsciously addicted to bears Erby The first person to tell me why we are the Polar Bears gets a free t-shirt sent to them.... Ashley Because it's cold in Maine Antonio Because the first polar bear was found there....? Moonie B/c it's cold! Erby Come on people, check the website. Who discovered the north pole? Ben Mr. Bowdoin. Erby Ben, funny. Adada Checking the website would be cheating =] Erby NOT IF YOU HAVE DSL Ben Robert Peary. Erby Ben, GOOD JOB, what year did he graduate from Bowdoin? Ben 1877 Andrew Was a Bowdoin graduate the north pole founder? Ben Aha, MacMillan traveled in a ship called the Bowdoin and floated around in the ocean. Ben MacMillan donated a Polar bear in 1917. Erby Ben, great job. Peary and MacMillian were the great explorers who discovered the north pole and donated the Polar Bear to the College, bullet wounds and all! Andrew That’s awesome!! Antonio The polar bear first became the College mascot in 1913. As noted in the January 21, 1913 edition of The Bowdoin Orient (Bowdoin's student newspaper), the polar bear was selected as Bowdoin's official mascot in recognition of the exploration of the polar region by Bowdoin alumni Thomas H. Hubbard of the Class of 1857, Robert E. Peary of the Class of 1877, and Donald B. MacMillan of the Class of 1898. Antonio That's what it says in the website if anyone is interested! Erby Antonio, great cut and paste job. Andrew Is the skin hanging somewhere in the college? Moonie Ummm I’ve heard Scandinavian legends that say the Vikings found it soooo... Kokeb Interesting Ben Heh, Wikipedia roxor. Just had to watch out if Robert Peary participated in the Kennedy assassination :]. Andrew Hahaha!! Erby Moonie..... Moonie Yup! Moonie Ok, I mean, yes?? master Mitchell... Andrew Maine university's mascot is the bears too....jeeze....too many bears Erby They are the black bears, so unoriginal. Ben Heh, polar bears have black skins. Quest_Heidi How about this: what is the annual event (or events) that students rally around? or what traditions do students look forward to? Erby Heidi, students rally around Common Good day, a day of public service, Ivies Weekend, spring weekend with lots of music, and hockey games. Adada I really want to visit... Quest_Heidi Ah, well I’m thinking about wrapping this up. Does anyone have any questions that weren’t answered? MiaTalia I do!! Erby, what are the biggest advantages a Bowdoin applicant can possess? Erby Mia, you should possess strong writing skills, the ability to make important connections between your interests and a liberal arts education, and you should be someone who'd be a good roommate. We are a residential college of which 95 % of our students live in dorms, we care a great deal about character. MiaTalia Haha. Thanks Erby! Ashley Thank you for answering our questions. I appreciate it. CJ Does it really get to be 40 below zero!!!! That's a bit frightening to me? Andrew Haha....no Erby This has been fun, thank you. Moonie Yes, thank you, you are fun. And by the way, my real name is Moon. oh! and thx heidi! CJ It sounds like I would need much more than just a coat to survive up there. Good night all! MiaTalia Thank you so much Erby!!! This has been a wonderful experience!!! Kokeb Yes man, we appreciate it very much. Erby Kokeb, this has been fabulous. Adada Thanks a bunch! Izzy BYE YOU GUYS! THANK YOU ERB FOR YOU ANSWERS AND YOUR TIME Moonie Thank yoouoooooouuuuuuu!!!! Hehe, that was the most fun yet of these chats. Bowdoin is now a high interest of mine. Bye everyone! Good luck! Erby Peace. Please contact me with questions at: emitchel@bowdoin.edu Andrew Later erby, thank you for your time Kokeb Thanks Erby. It was fun. I will contact you........ Ashley Thank you Antonio Really, thank you!!! Quest_Heidi Erby, any departing words of wisdom? Erby Just remember to work hard and do a good job highlighting your important attributes. You are all very special people and you'll find the right college, just stay true to yourselves! I really enjoyed talking with you all. I wish you all the best of luck. Quest_Heidi Thank you all for joining us, and a special thanks to Sir Erby Mitchell from Bowdoin :) CJ Thank you for your time and answering our questions. Andrew Yea.....agreed with CJ thanks a lot erby! Erby No Doubt. Have a great year! Peace. Andrew GO TO BOwDOIN!!! GO BEARS! Andrew Thank you hiedi!! Erby Thank you, Heidi! Quest_Heidi Thank you everyone - this has been the best chat yet!! :) Andrew You’re a great host! Moonie Agreed. kim.laurie Well I am bit apprehensive about this whole admissions process, but I know it will be so worth it for Bowdoin! I’ve got 1 essay done and 4 more to go...Erby I want to thank you so much for your time and I hope to see you at Bowdoin next year! Best regards! Ben Thanks Erby, I guess if I ever see you I'll have to steal a t-shirt :]. | |
