At the age of 10, Tenzing's parents sent him to a boarding school in India to escape the Maoist rebellion in his native Nepal. There, he flourished academically, participating in a sub-continental quiz contest and receiving accolades from Trinity College of Music in London. His stellar accomplishments continued after he and his parents immigrated to the United States in 2004. Beyond academics, Tenzing is the President of his school’s Science Club and Quiz Bowl, and has served as the Vice-President of Academic Decathlon and Prefect of the Senior Library. Tenzing credits his parents for instilling in him perseverance and finds motivation in the works of the Dalai Lama for the people of Tibet. In college, he plans to develop his interests in biochemistry and literature, and possibly add one more to an impressive repertory of six languages.
