Vanessa Maycumber
Kalispell, Montana

Wheaton College, Class of 2010

Determined to look beyond personal tragedy and economic hardships, Vanessa has triumphed in both academics and extra-curricular activities, developing a heart for service and a passion for change. She is highly involved in her local church through involvement in the youth group, orchestra, and volunteering in the nursery. While maintaining high grades in International Baccalaureate courses, she finds time to compete on the varsity speech and debate team, serve as a state secretary of Health Occupations Students of America, and play the clarinet in several school ensembles. After witnessing the recent passing of her mother due to cancer, she increasingly feels drawn to the health care field and plans to someday become a missionary doctor. Since this event, she has rediscovered the value of deep relationships and treasures connections with friends and family. Her academic interests are varied, ranging from psychology, French, music, biology, to philosophy.
