Alegria Mitson-Salazar
Manassa, Colorado

Grinnell College, Class of 2010

Alegria's varying interests have taken her from the PREP and SUMMET engineering programs at the Colorado School of Mines to the Rural Health Scholars Program at the University of Colorado. Alegria is an avid reader who enjoys dancing ballet and playing the piano and flute. She is president of the Math Club and captain of the varsity Knowledge Bowl team for her school. She dedicates time after school to tutoring at her high school and the local middle school. Education is the key to a better world, and Alegria would like to have a hand in shaping it--possibly with a career in teaching, but she is also considering mathematics, medicine, neuroscience, and theatre. Volunteering in her community has been one of her favorite activities, and she would like to continue this through overseas or domestic work later on. Her bicultural upbringing has given her an appreciation for the cultural diversity that makes her rural community unique. She owes her success to her wonderful family, her friends, and her enthusiastic and outstanding teachers.
