Nathan Seifert
Harrisonburg, Virginia

Amherst College, Class of 2010

Successfully transitioning from over ten years of homeschooling to the chaotic realm of public education, Nathan has quickly learned to balance the independence of homeschool and the social interaction and diversity of the public system to fully maximize his educational potential. When asking Nathan to speak of a random topic in which he is knowledgeable, he will prove himself completely unpredictable in his discussion, happily sharing information on the latest trends in chemical research or the results at last year's Cannes festival. Nathan has found himself in a great educational position, excelling in chemistry by placing second in the state of Virginia for first year chemistry on the state competitive exam. At the same time, he has been one of the top students on his school's Scholastic Bowl team, utilizing his frequently confounding depth of knowledge in popular culture and literature. During his free time, Nathan can frequently be found combining hours-long listening sessions of the latest in experimental music with research for his Organic Chemistry course. After high school, Nathan hopes to utilize his educational drive by majoring in chemistry and ultimately entering the research field of either organic or physical chemistry.
