At the age of three, Jennifer Bido traveled from her farm house in the Dominican Republic to the flashy and exciting city of New York. Her life has since been dominated by contrasting environments. Every morning, she leaves her impoverished neighborhood to attend a prestigious magnet school in the Big City. These differences have given her a unique perspective that motivates her to act upon every opportunity that is presented to her. At school, Jennifer takes classes that not only challenge her, but at the same time inspire her to think in new ways. Leading her high school basketball and softball teams during the year has given her the experience of balancing a hectic schedule with the joys of participating in sports. Jennifer’s passions in school also include the study of biology and Japanese. The latter has opened her up to a culture completely different than the American and Spanish ones she has grown up with. She was fortunate enough to journey to Japan in 2006 and spend her summer in a non-English speaking town where she was able to sharpen her language skills. In the future, Jennifer hopes to become a doctor.
