Malcolm Bressendorf
Richmond, Virginia

Columbia University, Class of 2011

Growing up in a single-parent household, Malcolm Bressendorf and his mom moved quite often and struggled to find a permanent home. Through this difficult period, Malcolm was fortunate to experience meaningful moments along the way. He has never forgotten Mr. Wright, his fifth grade teacher who opened his mind by challenging him to question things he had never questioned before. It is advice he applies in his interest in science and technology. He has been a member of his high school’s Robotics Team since freshman year and now as a senior he is a part of the leadership cadre. Each year he works along with other team members and mentors to build and develop an operable robot for competition. This past summer, Malcolm had the awesome opportunity to work as a Volunteer at the Science and Children’s Museum located in Richmond, Virginia. When he leaves for college, he intends to remember the important lessons learned here, and elsewhere that led him down this unbelievable path. Currently a research assistant at the Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Engineering, he plans to study mechanical engineering and concentrate on nanotechnology and nanomanufacturing.
