Carla Cain-Walther
Media, Pennsylvania

Williams College, Class of 2011

Growing up in a diverse, multiracial family has helped Carla Cain-Walther develop a strong sense of self and kindness toward others. Early in her childhood, she was plagued with the death of her older sister and brother. Carla turned to writing to work through and express her pain, and subsequently discovered a love for words that has blossomed ever since. Her writing has been published in the Wall Street Journal; she has also been promised a future publication in Parade Magazine and was named a finalist for the international River of Words poetry contest. When she is not busy with local and online writing workshops, she runs indoor and outdoor track. Carla’s studies have always been high on her priority list, which was recognized in 2006 when she received the Syracuse Book Award and was inducted into the National Honors Society. Carla is still undecided about what field she would like to enter after college, but she is certain that writing will somehow be incorporated. She knows that whatever happens, the future can only hold amazing things.
