The Common Application or Coalition Application with Stanford-specific questions

You may use the same essays for both the QuestBridge Application and the Common Application or Coalition Application. You do not need to submit the Common Application or Coalition Application forms for official-transcripts, the School Report, the Counselor Recommendation, or the two teacher recommendations. We will accept these documents as submitted on the QuestBridge application. 

Select the "Regular Decision" term on the Common Application or Coalition Application (not "Restrictive Early Action").

Select the fee waiver option if you meet the Common Application or Coalition Application fee waiver guidelines. If you do not meet the guidelines, simply respond to the QuestBridge Finalist question in the Stanford Questions section of the application.

Please include your full legal name, school name, and date of birth on all forms.

Test Scores

Stanford will review applications from students attending U.S. high schools using their official or self-reported test scores. Official score reports are not required unless the student is admitted and chooses to enroll.

Stanford requires the SAT with Essay or the ACT with Writing. 

SAT Subject Tests are optional.

Non-native English speakers should submit TOEFL scores if the SAT Critical Reading or the ACT does not accurately reflect their English skill level.

Please select "Regular Decision" as your admission application type. 

If your parents own a business or farm:

  • Submit the CSS Financial Aid/PROFILE Business/Farm Supplement.

If your parents are divorced or separated:

  • Each parent will need to provide CSS Profile information separately, using individual login credentials. We recommend that the student and the custodial parent complete the CSS Profile first.
  • Each parent must also submit copies of their 2016 federal tax returns with all schedules, attachments, W-2 Forms, and other earnings statements. Submit directly to Stanford using this cover sheet through the Financial Aid Office's secure Document Upload.
  • If you do not have any contact with your noncustodial parent, then you may submit a request to waive the requirement of their financial information. Download the NCP Waiver Request Form

IRS Data Retrieval Tool

You may obtain your parents’ tax data directly from the IRS by using the Data Retrieval tool. This process transfers your family’s tax information directly to the FAFSA application. Step by step instructions are available here.

If you choose to not complete this step, the Financial Aid Office may request from you an IRS tax transcript in order to complete your application.

A copy of your parents' 2016 federal income tax returns

Signed, with all schedules, attachments, W-2 forms and other earning statements. Include personal and corporate partnership tax returns. Include applicant's full legal name, school name, date of birth and "QuestBridge" on all pages. Use this cover sheet to submit your documents via one of the following options:

1. Upload completed PDF using the Financial Aid Office's secure Document Upload

2. Fax to the Financial Aid Office (650) 725-0540

3. Mail to Financial Aid Office Montag Hall, 355 Galvez Street Stanford, CA 94305-6106.

Please allow at least three business days for processing of all documents. If you encounter a technical issue with the document upload or fax send an email to financialaid@stanford.edu and someone will get back to you within 48 hours.

Options following the Match

Restrictive
Early Action

Finalists who do not match cannot be considered for admission through Restrictive Early Action to Stanford, but instead will be automatically considered in the Regular Decision process.

Regular Decision

All Finalists who rank Stanford for the College Match, but did not match to a binding college will automatically have their applications moved into the Regular Decision process. To have your application be considered complete during the Regular Decision process, you will now need to submit official transcripts, the School Report, the Counselor Recommendation, and the two teacher recommendations using the Common Application or Coalition Application forms. You may submit the same recommendations included in the QuestBridge application. The Regular Decision application forms are due January 2. 

Please also submit your midyear transcript and any significant and relevant updates on or by February 15. You may do so using the Common Application or Coalition Application forms, or you may email our Credentials office with an update at credentials@stanford.edu. 


If you no longer wish to be considered, you must contact the Undergraduate Admission Office at credentials@stanford.edu to withdraw your application. Be sure to include your full legal name, school name, date of birth, and application ID.

Regular Decision Requirements:

Step 1: Select Stanford on the QuestBridge Regular Decision Form on your Application Management page between November 6 - December 11. Only check the box if you fully intend to submit a complete application to Stanford (including all of the materials detailed in the table below).

Step 2: Submit all additional required application materials to Stanford according to your status by the deadlines listed below.
