Everyone here at the University of Virginia will describe us as a chapter of support and community. As a recognized student group, we all seek to make sure that every QuestBridge Scholar is aware of our presence and of the chance to connect to people with similar backgrounds. Whenever we have events, we can often rely on funding from the University or QuestBridge and on the participation of our Scholars. We seek to create an environment for our Scholars to feel that they are not only welcome at the University of Virginia but also an important factor in sustaining our diverse community.
Many of our QuestBridge Scholars have been actively working with our admissions office, along with developing relationships with several of the deans. Traditionally, we help the admissions office during the acceptance weekends, hosting QuestBridge students and providing additional activities beyond the typical acceptance weekend events. In November and December we all work closely with Madison House, an organization on campus responsible for community service. We participate in food drives and collect money for a family to have a Thanksgiving meal and Christmas presents. We also have several mentoring families under our Quest Mentoring program.
Perhaps one of our favorite events is the welcome party we host at the beginning of the year, welcoming back our upperclassmen as well as introducing our first-year Scholars to the University of Virginia. It’s always nice to see everyone come together and instantly create bonds in that relaxed environment. We’re also really big on hosting incoming first years for the acceptance weekend and showing them what we’re all about!
