W&L requires either the SAT or the ACT. 

TOEFL is recommended for non-native English speakers who have not spent at least two years in an English-language secondary school.

Request official scores from the College Board and/or ACT. Do NOT use the rush reporting service. W&L also acceps official test scores from a high school transcript, or if they are sent from your guidance counselor via mail, email or fax (see Contact Information below).

Please select "Early Decision" as your admission application type. 

If your parents are divorced or separated:

  • Your noncustodial parent must submit the online Noncustodial Profile using the login ID and password that will be emailed to you when you complete the CSS Profile.
  • Your noncustodial parent must also submit copies of their 2017 federal tax returns with all schedules, attachments, W-2 Forms, and other earnings statements. Submit directly to W&L using this cover sheet
  • If you do not have any contact with your noncustodial parent, then you may submit a request to waive the requirement of their financial information. Download the Noncustodial Parent Waiver Petition.


A copy of your parents’ 2017 federal income tax returns

Signed, with all schedules, attachments, W-2 forms and other earning statements. Include personal and corporate partnership tax returns. Submit directly to W&L using this cover sheet.

Options following the Match

Early Decision, Johnson Scholarship

Finalists who do not match may apply Early Decision to W&L through Early Decision II.

Applicants interested in Early Decision II must send an email with the subject "QuestBridge Finalist Early Decision II" to questbridge@wlu.edu by January 1.

All QuestBridge Finalists are automatically considered for the Johnson Scholarship and are encouraged to complete the additional Johnson Scholarship Essay. The Johnson Scholarship Essay may be submitted through the Common Application Writing Supplement for Washington and Lee, or through the Washington and Lee applicant web portal, Generals' Headquarters (GHQ), which will be accessible to you after Washington and Lee has received your QuestBridge application or your Common Application. Regular Decision

All Finalists who rank W&L for the College Match, but did not match to a binding college will automatically have their applications moved into the Regular Decision process. Please submit an updated transcript and any relevant updates.  Finalists whose applications are moved into Regular Decision at W&L are automatically considered for all merit-based scholarships awarded by Washington & Lee.

If you no longer wish to be considered, you must contact the Admissions Office to withdraw your application (see Contact Information below).

Regular Decision Requirements:

Step 1: Select W&L on the QuestBridge Regular Decision Form on your Application Management page between November 5 - December 10. Only check the box if you fully intend to submit a complete application to W&L (including all of the materials detailed in the table below).

Step 2: Submit all additional required application and financial materials by the applicable deadlines directly to W&L as detailed in the table below.
