Seasonal Application Reader, College Partnerships

QuestBridge is a nonprofit organization that connects high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds with educational opportunities that can change their lives, as well as the demographics of our nation’s leading educational institutions.

QuestBridge offers the National College Match for high-achieving high school seniors from low-income backgrounds. Through the National College Match, students can apply for admission and full four-year scholarships at our 48 college partners. We evaluate all applications using a holistic review process, and students who demonstrate academic excellence, financial need, and strength in character are selected as our “Finalists” – students who will be competing for the Match Scholarships. 

We are looking for seasonal application readers to help us review applications. As an application reader, you will have the opportunity to read inspiring stories from incredibly talented youth from across the country. Application readers will be trained on QuestBridge’s selection criteria and will work with a supervisor to normalize their application review. Applications are grouped by region and application readers must be able to commit to reading at least 100 applications. First-time readers will not receive more than 150 applications in order to faciliate proper alignment with our standards.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree. 
  • Comfortable making decisions and exercising good judgement.
  • Strong analytical reading skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrate high level of discretion and confidentiality. 
  • Basic familiarity with online databases, PDFs, and email.
  • Knowledge of, and ideally experience with, higher education and college admissions or financial aid.
  • Prior experience in reviewing and evaluating applications is preferred.

Hours, Duration, and Location of Work 

This is a contract position that requires a total of approximately 45 - 55 hours of work from September 29, 2022 – October 10, 2022. Approximately 6 hours of training from the end of August throughout September, including three mandatory online training sessions an hour each, are required prior to the reading period. Readers conduct their application reading remotely.

Compensation

Application readers will be compensated at a rate of $5 per application, plus an additional $125 for the training process.
