All outside scholarships must be reported to the Financial Aid Office by submitting a copy of the award certificate or letter from the scholarship donor indicating the type and amount of the award. All outside scholarships reduce or replace the self-help portion of the package (federal loans and student contribution), and the Financial Aid Office will adjust the package as soon as documentation of the outside scholarship is received. Outside scholarships do not change or impact the expected parent contribution.
Barnard students are required to have health insurance through their parent(s) or a qualified plan. However, students who receive institutional aid and do not qualify for the waiver can request additional grants to cover the health insurance fees.
Travel expenses for Barnard students are determined by their primary residence and used during the initial financial aid evaluation. These allowances are done on a case-by-case basis and will be covered by the family as part of the student’s Self-Help.
While there are no academic requirements for the National College Match process, students will need to meet the college’s Satisfactory Academic Progress standards to be eligible for aid each year.
Students may be expected to contribute toward their college expenses even if they have a $0 parent contribution. This contribution can be met with income from summer earnings, portion of any assets, or familial assistance.
Barnard's financial aid policies reflect their commitment to making Barnard a realistic option for families, regardless of finances, and ensuring qualified applicants are able to afford to attend. All financial aid at Barnard is awarded based solely on demonstrated need. Barnard does not offer any merit awards.
Deadlines: Barnard College has strict deadlines for any student who intends to apply for financial aid. Students will not be considered eligible for the upcoming academic year if the required documents are not received by the appropriate deadline
