Policy Regarding Outside Funding
Students are encouraged to pursue outside funding to help finance books, travel, personal, and health insurance expenses. If you receive significant outside funding that covers these expenses in full, remaining outside funding may be used to replace work study expectations during the academic year. Any outside funds in excess of these amounts will reduce Pomona Scholarship dollar for dollar. Federal and state grants are not considered outside funding.

Policy on Travel Allowance
The amount of travel included in the financial aid budget is dependent on the student's permanent home address and distance from Pomona College. Grant aid is not provided directly to cover this expense, but if students choose to work on campus they may consider putting aside some earnings from work to cover the cost of travel. You should be prepared to pay for your transportation to Pomona in the fall.

Policy on Health Insurance
Pomona requires students to have health insurance as an enrolled student to ensure access to medical care away from home. If you choose to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan, you will receive a grant from Pomona to cover half of the cost of the insurance premium. For 2018-19, the health plan costs $2,356 for annual coverage. Students may access loan funding for the second half or use outside scholarship funds to cover the other half.

Requirements Associated with Maintaining this Award
Students must reapply for aid each year and maintain satisfactory academic progress toward graduation in order to maintain the match scholarship award. Aid is only guaranteed for 8 semesters. Additional semesters of aid are available, if needed, but will include loans as part of the package.

Other Details
Total grant provided will cover tuition, fees, room and board. A medical grant will be provided for half of the cost of insurance if enrolled in college plan.  A start-up grant of $500 will be provided in the fall of the first semester of enrollment to assist with move-in expenses.
