Outside funding will first reduce campus employment eligibility in a student’s financial aid offer. Funding beyond $2,000 will replace the University of Richmond grant dollar for dollar.
Students who do not have health insurance coverage that meets Richmond’s requirements must purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Students may request additional funding, which will be offered in the form of loans and/or grants, to cover the cost of SHIP. For reference, the cost of this plan is $2,526 for the 2025-26 academic year.
Richmond’s Cost of Attendance does not include a travel component separate from what is already estimated for personal expenses. Students seeking additional financial aid for travel expenses may make a request to the Office of Financial Aid, and any additional funding will be offered as a loan.
Richmond does not include an expected student summer work contribution. Instead, we offer $2,500 of campus employment eligibility that can be used toward a student's books, supplies, and personal expenses.
Students are eligible to receive the Match Scholarship for eight full-time, undergraduate semesters. To maintain their eligibility, students must make Satisfactory Academic Progress and submit updated financial aid application materials by May 15 each year.
The University of Richmond is committed to meeting 100% of demonstrated financial need for every admitted student, as determined by a thorough review of the financial aid application information each year. Richmond meets a family’s demonstrated need by offering financial aid packages that consist largely of grants and scholarships, with a self-help component (up to $5,000 for first-year students, $6,000 for sophomores, and $7,000 for juniors and seniors) that typically includes work-study eligibility and a loan offer. For Match Scholarship Recipients, Richmond offers financial aid packages that consist only of grants/scholarships and campus employment eligibility up to the full Cost of Attendance, as demonstrated above.
Need-based financial aid packages do not include or impact a student’s eligibility to receive up to $5,000 to fund one summer of research or internship experience through the Richmond Guarantee. Financial aid offers will also support a student’s enrollment in UR-sponsored study abroad programs.
