Match Requirements Guide

Learn more about the materials schools require to apply and how to successfully submit them.

Match Requirements are additional materials you must submit to each of the college partners on your ranking list if selected as a Finalist. These materials are required to be considered for the Match Scholarship and are due by November 1. Learn more about the materials schools require to apply and how to successfully submit them.

Don't wait until the last minute! The more schools you rank, the more Match Requirements you will need to submit. Stay organized and make steady progress by creating an action plan. Aim to submit all materials by November 1, and try to work on them a little each day. If you are certain you want to apply to a school, you can even begin working on these materials before Finalist decisions are released.

Remember: Match Requirements will vary by school, so it is important to review each school’s Match Requirements page to determine what you will need to submit.

Types of Match Requirements

Match Requirements typically include both academic and financial materials that must be submitted directly to each school you choose to rank.

How to submit materials: Each school you rank will provide an application portal for submitting your materials, so be sure to check your email (including spam/junk folders) after Finalist notification for access information. If you don't hear from a school three business days after Finalist notification or encounter any issues accessing your portal, contact the school directly for assistance. QuestBridge is unable to inquire about application portal access for applicants.

Academic requirements refer to materials relating to your academic performance or interests. Schools also use these materials to get a better understanding of your achievements, future goals, and potential fit in their campus community.

Supplements or questionnaires

These are typically submitted through the school portals, and there can be a variety of questions, which may include supplemental essays.

Supplemental essays can help you illustrate how you will positively contribute to the campus community and how the school can support your personal, professional, and academic aspirations.

These supplemental essay prompts will vary by school. Some schools may use similar essay prompts to other applications (e.g., the Common Application), while others may use prompts designed specifically for QuestBridge Finalists.

Supplements will be available in school portals after Finalist notification; however, some schools may post any required essay prompts earlier. Review their Match Requirements or admission website for more information.

Official transcripts

Your high school counselor may need to provide an official transcript. Generally, if your counselor uploaded your transcript through their School Report as part of your National College Match application, it will be considered official, and they do not need to resubmit it, but this may vary by school.

Some schools may also request a senior year progress report to get a sense of your current academic performance.

Test scores

Standardized test score requirements vary across our college partners. Some schools are test-optional, while others will require test scores for Match Scholarship consideration. Carefully review each school’s testing policy to ensure you meet the school’s requirements.

If you received new test scores after the National College Match deadline, you should send them directly to the schools you’ve ranked.

If you submitted test scores to QuestBridge and test scores are not required by the schools you are ranking, the schools will give you the option to indicate whether or not you would like to have your test scores reviewed alongside the rest of your application. Please follow the instructions provided by the school or contact them directly for details on applying test-optional.

Other academic requirements

Some schools may give you the opportunity to submit other materials, such as video responses, performance supplements, and/or additional letters of recommendation.

Financial requirements refer to materials relating to your household's income and assets. Schools also use these materials to determine a student's financial need to attend their institution.

Note: The CSS Profile and FAFSA typically open in early October, so be sure to gather important documents early and work with your parent(s)/guardian(s) to complete these applications.

CSS Profile

The CSS Profile is an additional financial aid application used by many colleges to award their own institutional funds to students.

Federal tax returns and forms

Some schools may require submission of official documentation to verify financial information, such as tax returns, W-2s, or other materials

If the most recent tax returns are not available, they may require submission of other documentation, such as the previous year's tax return or W-2s.

Additional financial aid materials can be submitted through the IDOC (Institutional Documentation Service) if the school accepts it or to the school directly.

If these forms are unavailable, we recommend contacting the school’s financial aid office directly for your next steps.

FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or the FAFSA, is a free application form that students submit to apply for federal financial aid. It is required for all students seeking federal student grants, work-study programs, and loans, and may also qualify the student for state-sponsored financial aid. Students should confirm their eligibility for federal student aid and contact the school’s financial aid office directly with questions.

Other financial requirements

Schools may also request additional materials, such as institutional financial aid applications, non-custodial parent waivers, and other items.
