Data Scientist, Historical Data Project
QuestBridge is a nonprofit organization that connects outstanding low-income students with educational opportunities at our nation’s leading educational institutions.
As a QuestBridge Data Scientist, you will join the founding team of the QuestBridge Historical Data Project. We are looking for candidates interested in using their analytical and technical skills to explore new data, design intuitive ways to visualize nontraditional data, and build predictive models. Our Data Scientists work closely together in a collaborative environment where feedback and growth are welcomed and encouraged. If you enjoy using statistical and machine learning techniques to answer QuestBridge’s mission-critical questions, we look forward to reviewing your application!
Desired Qualifications
The best candidates should be able to speak to their:
- Experience working with multiple sources of data (education data is a plus)
- Ability to write code that allows for easy replication of statistical and machine learning work
- Familiarity with most of the following: Python (Pandas, Scikit Learn, etc.), Git, SQL, Statistics, Machine Learning (unsupervised learning is a plus), advanced Excel
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with applying statistics, unsupervised learning, and building models in a professional context
- Previous experience of producing data analyses to support decision-making
- Experience conducting quality assurance on code, and documenting project
- Previous success in independently driving research and analytical initiatives forward
- Strong attention to details
- Ability to incorporate feedback
- Strong communication skills
- Passion for QuestBridge’s mission
Success Measures
Success in this role is defined by achieving the following:
- Comprehensive answers about the patterns found in the data
- Reliable predictive models
- Detailed understanding of the limits and potential of the QuestBridge data, and models
- Well-documented code that any current or incoming data scientists can build upon
Compensation
Competitive compensation is commensurate with experience and skills for the position.
Hours and Location of Work
This is a full-time position, located at the QuestBridge office in Palo Alto, CA.
